About us.

Heald Town Ponies is a small home based stud, managed by Carolyn Ashcroft. Only a small number of Highland foals are produced each year, allowing every new baby to be handled from birth. Our brood mares, foals and stallion, Bertie, are very much part of the family. As such when we sell any of our ponies we are keen to vet any potential new owners.

Carolyn's love of the Highland breed began whilst working at a riding school teaching disabled children and adults to ride. The Highland was a breed favoured by the school, being strong carriers, kind in nature and highly intelligent. It was the experience of meeting many of these characterful ponies that inspired Carolyn to begin working with the breed.

Our breeding stock has been carefully chosen to have favoured blood lines, natural fluid movement, pretty heads and strong bone meaning the demand for our foals is high. If you are looking for a pony and cannot see one listed for sale, please be in touch as we may be able to produce a foal for you from your preferred mare.

In addition to breeding Highlands, Heald Town Ponies have been involved with many rescue cases. We will, where possible, take on ponies of all breeds and help to find loving new homes, so if you see a pony on our yard that isn't a Highland the chances are that it is one of our rescues. Our much loved 'Wendy of Logierait' was saved from the meat trade. With a little time and alot of love this mare is unrecognisable from the pony that first arrived on the yard. This pony has bloodlines tracing back to the original Highland, therefore she has not been rehomed, but chosen to be one of our brood mares.

We always welcome visits prior to purchasing a pony. Please contact us before visiting and we will ensure that the dam and sire are availble to be seen.
